How to Yell

I have so much that I would love to say right now, but the only thing running through my head are these stupid proofs I have to know for my exam on Friday. So I thought I would share one with you so you could see what I’m memorizing and it will help me study. This is called the cocktail-party proof. Why? I don’t know.

Let f map s into 2^s. It suffices to argue that f is not an onto function. If s is in S and s is in f(s) then color s blue. Otherwise, color s red. One notes that the preimage of the empty set contains only red elements and the preimage of the set S contains only blue elements. Let R denote the subset of S that contains exactly the red elements. We argue that R is not in the range of f. If R is the image of a blue element, then that element, by its blueness, is an element of R, but this is contrary to the definition of R. Thus, R is not the image of a blue element. If R is the image of a red element, then that element, by its redness, is not an element of R, but this is also contrary to the definition of R. Thus R is not the image of a red element. It can be concluded that R is not in the range of f. This completes the proof. 

Well that was my proof. It was probably really boring and I’m surprised if anyone is still reading this, but that actually came from memory, which is a really good thing! so yeah :) I guess thats all for now.

So a little while ago one of my friends prompted in a post that we all post secrets. At the time I couldn’t really think of anything worth posting, but now I have a secret. As much as I deny liking the cute little things, I actually do like them. 

Right now I’m sitting at my desk, listening to John Mayer, procrastinating on homework. Today just doesn’t seem like a day to do it. It is dark and cloudy and dreary and rainy in Troy, but it seems to have brought peace. For some reason there seems to be a sense of tranquility on campus. There isn’t any unnecessary drama. The weather is not at an extreme. I can’t really explain it other than the fact that I’m glad its here. 

In some ways this semester seems much more difficult then last semester. I am taking harder classes, I have more work, it seems like I don’t sleep enough. But in reality I don’t know if thats true. The classes might be harder, but I put in the work to learn it, they aren’t that bad. I might be working more, but in comparison I’m probably not working as hard as I could be. And I sleep a lot. Its not at normal times, but its still sleep. I don’t know what it is about this semester. In some ways I feel like I have settled down. I’m still working hard, but I’m not playing quite as hard as I was. 

Anyway, that is enough of that rant. One week from now I will be on a plane to Mexico to spend time with two of my best friends! I can’t wait.

So today is in interesting day in a lot of people’s lives. In some ways it is wonderful to see my friends with boyfriends or girlfriends so happy to celebrate what they have together, and in some ways the typical girl part of me kicks in and I become bitter. I don’t know where I stand right now, but valentine’s day is about celebrating the people you love and care about, and in my life that has always been my closest friends. 

Happy Valentine’s Day girls! I love you all, and no matter whether you are single, in a complicated situation, in a relationship, or whatever, I care about you and wish you a lovely Valentine’s day! :)
